A Not So Good Monday

You know how when you wake up and feel good you can just tell it's going to be a great day? This is how my Monday morning started. I woke up feeling good, refreshed, and ready to start my full day of work. All the kids seemed to have great attitudes and really want to be at day care. The morning went so smoothly it flew by, and before I realized it, it was lunchtime. We all washed hands and sat down to enjoy a nice quiet lunch. Now in reality, this hardly ever happens, it’s hardly ever quiet at lunchtime. Today, however, was an off day and the children were being very well behaved. After we cleaned up from lunch the children got ready for rest time as they do everyday. Everyone found a spot and lay down on their mat to begin rest. Shortly after rest time had started another childcare staff came in to assist in the afternoon. We sat talking as the children lay asleep on their mats and went over the plans for the afternoon. About halfway through rest time we heard one of the children start to cough. We sat and listened to see if it was just a cough or something more serious, as the child gave another hard cough followed by a gasp for breathe we jumped to action. I ran and turned on the lights as Mary ran to the little girl to figure out what was wrong. Between gasps for air the little girl choked out the word barrette, this is when I realized my Monday was turning out to be not so good. With one swift back blow from Mary the barrette dislodged itself from the child’s throat. I have never been so thankful to know CPR-First Aid, as I was that day. It was the quick thinking and action from Mary that saved the little girl.

  2. I am glad that everything turned out alright. Not everyone has the knowledge of CPR to help out in that situation
